A new, alternative intro-operative technology for imaging patients, called the Loop-X was unveiled at the North American Spine Society (NASS) 2019 conference last week by a company called BrainLab. It is still in the testing stage and has not yet been approved by the FDA in America or any authority elsewhere in the world and is not available to buy yet but it created a lot of excitement.
According to a press release, the Loop-X robotic technology introduces more flexibility than current imaging technology, “adding additional degrees of freedom to any surgical procedure” by its ability to easily move and can be used in sync with other devices like robotic arms. Also the Loop-X produces both 2D and 3D ultra-high resolution imaging but with extra-low doses of radiation exposure. Unfortunately it will be probably be many years before this type of technology is widely used.
