XXIX Brussels International Spine Symposium

An excellent meeting with a lot of international speakers talking about topics ranging from the normal degenerative changes expected in the spine to issues that predominantly affect patients as they get older.

Age-related degenerative changes in the spine are expected but can look quite worrying on MRI scans – it is important that patients understand these changes are normal and that MRI reports can sound worse than they are!

Osteoporosis is a loss of bone density and hence strength. This is not painful in itself but can result in fractures of the spine and also make some operations more difficult. So there was a lot of discussion at the meeting about optimising bone health and strength as prevention is better than cure.
